Answer sheets

Do I need special pre-printed OMR forms?

No. You design the sheet in the software and print it on plain A4 paper with an ordinary printer. The sheet carries four black corner markers that the software uses to find it later.

How many questions and options can a sheet have?

From 1 to 200 questions, laid out in 2, 4 or 5 columns, with 3 to 6 options per question (A to F). The same limits apply on Windows and Android.

Can the sheet carry a roll number and a sheet number?

Yes. A roll-number grid of 1 to 9 digits and a printed sheet number from 001 to 999 can each be switched on. Both are read back when the sheet is graded.

Can I see what a sheet looks like before buying?

Yes. The sample sheets page shows real 50, 100 and 200 question sheets made by the software, and you can download the images.

Why must the sheets be printed on A4?

The corner markers sit about 10 mm from the edge of an A4 page. US Letter is 18 mm shorter, so printing on Letter or with “fit to page” cuts off the bottom markers. The Windows software sends A4 to the printer itself; on Android you choose A4 in the print dialog.

Scanning and grading

What can I scan the filled sheets with?

On Windows: image files (JPG, PNG or PDF) from any scanner or camera, or a WIA document scanner driven from inside the software, with a sheet feeder or a flatbed. On Android: the phone camera or photos from the gallery.

What happens if a sheet is skewed, shadowed or partly cut off?

The software finds the four corner markers and corrects the perspective. A corner is accepted only when the marker is clearly found; otherwise the sheet goes to a screen where you place the corners by hand. It does not guess.

What if a student fills two bubbles, or none?

Both are flagged on the review screen. A question with more than one filled bubble, or with none, earns no marks for being correct, and you can check each flagged question before saving.

Can I grade a whole stack at once?

Yes. Pick or scan the whole batch; every sheet is read first, then shown in one table with its score and a flag on anything that needs a person, such as a duplicate sheet number or a roll number that is not on the class register.

Can a sheet printed from Windows be graded on Android?

Yes. Both apps use the same sheet geometry and the same grading engine, so a sheet designed on one can be graded on the other.

Marking and results

How does negative marking work?

Turn it on in the answer key and set the marks for a correct answer and the deduction for a wrong one. Each question can carry its own values. With negative marking off, each correct answer is worth exactly 1 mark.

How are candidates named in the results?

Add a class and its register of students, typed in or imported from an Excel or Word file with Name and Roll Number columns. When a sheet’s roll number matches the register, the name is filled in. A name you type yourself is never overwritten.

Which export formats are available?

Both apps export an Excel workbook (.xlsx) with one row per candidate, a PDF of the marked sheets, the sheet images, and a results backup file that opens in the other app. Windows can also save one PDF per candidate. There is no CSV export; Excel can save the workbook as CSV if you need it.

Platforms, installation and licensing

Which is available now, Windows or Android?

The Windows software is available now. The Android app is built and in testing, and is not yet published on Google Play.

What does the Windows software need?

A Windows PC, an A4 printer for the sheets, and either a scanner or a way to get sheet photos onto the computer. An internet connection is needed once, to activate the licence.

How is the Windows software licensed?

Each licence activates on one computer. A licence is either permanent or runs for a set period, counted from the day it is first activated. Contact us for a licence and its price.

Is there a charge for each sheet I grade?

Not on Windows. The licence covers the software on that computer, with no charge per sheet or per exam. The Android app has a free daily allowance of graded sheets.

How much does the Android app cost?

It is planned to be free to install, with a free daily allowance of graded sheets (15 a day at present) after signing in with a Google account. Everything except grading works without an account.

Is student data uploaded anywhere?

No. Names, roll numbers, marks and sheet images stay on the computer or phone. The Android app sends only what it needs for sign-in and the daily allowance.

Support

How do I get help?

Use the contact page. Tell us which app you use, its version, and what you were doing; a photo of the sheet that would not read helps most.
